Alvarez\u6c0f<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>On October 27, 2022, 8th GSE-OSIPP Joint Seminar in Economics (jointly organized by IPP Seminar) was held in the Conference room on the 6th floor of The OSIPP building, Toyonaka Campus. We welcomed two economists from IMF: Dr. Philip Barrett and Dr. Jorge A. Alvarez, who gave a special lecture titled \u201cIMF\u2019s World Economic Outlook and Wage-price Spiral Risks\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The lecture was divided into two parts. First, Dr. Barrett talked about the outlook for the world economy, inflation and uncertainty. Based on IMF\u2019s latest \u201cWorld Economic Outlook\u201d, he explained that the global growth forecast was revised down from their previous forecast in July, and that the global inflation is forecast to rise. In addition to that, it is said that the appropriate level of monetary tightening is uncertain. And then, Dr. Alvarez talked about labor markets post-COVID-19 and wage-price spiral risks*. According to their analysis, the wages and inflation have both increased, but the wage-spiral risks was not observed.
