–About Me

I came to Japan upon being granted the MEXT scholarship to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Japanese Studies in Osaka University. During my undergraduate studies, thanks to Osaka University being a haven for foreign students, I had the opportunity to meet a vast number of international students from many countries and all sorts of backgrounds, goals and experiences.

There were well-off, well-educated people, as well as people from little-known areas, war zones, and mostly, people from all over the world and to me previously completely different cultures. Here, I had the opportunity to listen to many stories from many perspectives; intimate, personal and detailed – about events in the world I only read or heard about in the western media.

The opinions, conversations and discussions I had the honor of listening to, witnessing and participating in opened a completely new way of looking at the world and my own life for me. I was hereby introduced to the intricacies and complexities of, and most of all a personal sense of fascination and wonder of what it means to live in this increasingly global society.

–Life at OSIPP

So it was for this reason that, when I looked for graduate programs that would interest me more than language, I was quite touched by OSIPP. Here, I thought, I could dive into the very center of what fascinates me about the world and learn about it: about war and peace, global governance, media, world events, causes of historical events and their consequences that affect us today – and policies and opinions about these that are being implemented out there in the real world. And through this, I would be able to peek into what it means to be human, and what the best way to be a part of the global society.

I came to the right place. In OSIPP, the focus is not just on political studies or international relations, not just on economics, and not just on law. OSIPP is a melting pot of all three, offering courses that blend these into a comprehensive education on how the world is governed and ways to think about it.

My focus is on political studies, and also within this particular field there is an array of classes both in English and in Japanese to offer a very rounded understanding of a variety of issues that exist in the field of governance.

The best part of my academic life at OSIPP is definitely the people. From the international academic staff who are all extremely experienced and well-versed in English, to the fellow students from various backgrounds, interests and opinions, which makes for passionate and informative discussions in classes. OSIPP could very well be described as a miniature of the global society, as movements and schools of thought in the world are reflected in students’ and teachers’ opinions and class discussions, and the future of the world as reflected in the motivations and observations of people who came from the very midst of global events that are discussed.
